Premier Scott Moe will be announcing more details on Monday about school opening, as he said in a video on twitter and Facebook on Saturday that the province will provide $40 million more to the 27 school divisions, and pushed back the start of classes to Tuesday, Sept. 8.
In the video, he noted that as a father and as an uncle, he knows about the importance of keeping students safe, and that students are excited about going back to class.
He will be joined by Saskatchewan鈥檚 Chief Medical Health Officer, Dr. Saqib Shahab, on Monday to unveil more details, including making voluntary COVID testing available in the schools. The premier said COVID testing capacity is at 3,000 people a day, and will increase to 4,000 a day by early September.
Starting on Sept. 8 鈥渋s a few days later than when students would normally return to class鈥, he said, but this will provide teachers and staff some additional days to prepare classes and common areas to be safer for staff and students to return.
Premier Moe said the province has been able to safely reopen businesses and most activities, and they should be able to reopen the schools safely as well.
