Suncountry Riding Club holds ride at Weyburn rodeo arena

Riders earn points and have fun riding horses

WEYBURN – Members of the Suncountry Riding Club gathered at the Weyburn fair grounds on Saturday for a full day of riding in the rodeo arena.

The club is a member of the Saskatchewan Riding Clubs Association (SRCA), and the club rides throughout the spring and summer with members earning points.

The points are earned in the various activities that test a person’s ability to ride and control their horse, such as barrel racing and pole-bending.

Each of these involve a particular pattern, and are timed events, with points awarded based on how the rider places.

Upcoming rides for the club are on June 18 at the fair grounds, July 2 at the city horse barns corral, and then on July 16 and 30, and Aug. 13 and 27, at the fair grounds.

At the end of the season, they will take part in the SRCA provincial finals, with this year’s finals set for Sept. 23-25 in Saskatoon.

Last year several Suncountry riders took part, and member Charlize Hallberg entered and won the 2021 SRCA Queen competition.
