Two individuals face several charges including Arson following a traffic stop on Highway 39 near Halbrite, SK, around 5pm on Wednesday December 16th.  Officers of the Weyburn Police Service CTSS unit and the Saskatchewan Highway Patrol initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle after being alerted by the Automated License Plate Reader.  As a result, the female driver is facing charges of Driving without a Valid Class of License, Impaired Driving, Possession of a Controlled Substance (x2), Possession of a Weapon Dangerous to the Public, and Failing to Comply with an Undertaking.  A male passenger, found to have an outstanding warrant for his arrest, also faces two charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance and one charge of Failing to Comply with an Undertaking.  Members of the RCMP attended to assist with the traffic stop as the vehicle was impounded for 30 days and the individuals were taken into custody and transported to the Weyburn Police Service station.  Further to the traffic stop, members of the Weyburn Police Service patrol unit were able to conduct further investigation into the recent late night arson involving an occupied residential home, resulting in the same two individuals being charged with that offence while still in custody.  Both subjects have been released with an upcoming court date.

The Weyburn Police Service is very pleased with the cooperation and combined efforts of all the officers and their respective agencies that were involved.
