WEYBURN – Children from the Penner and Schwindt families gathered by the front door to their own igloo playhouse, built out of snow blocks cut out of huge snowdrifts in the bushes north of Saskatchewan Drive on Weyburn’s northwest corner, near the former Souris Valley grounds.
In the back at left are Lily Penner, Josie and Brooklyn Schwindt, and in front are Finley Penner, Tucker Schwindt, Heidi Penner and Scarlett Schwindt.
Their parents built the igloo on Saturday in about three hours. The drifts were estimated to be about 10 to 15 feet above the floor of the woods.
The drifts are hard enough to walk on the tops of, and are high enough that the children also slide down them when they’re not in the igloo.
The igloo also has snow-block furniture inside, and is roomy enough for all seven to be inside at once, or to have a parent or two inside as well.
