Weyburn city council approved the tenders for four pieces of parks and facilities maintenance equipment, with a total of five bidders submitting proposals.

The fleet services for public works has an allotted budget for capital purchases, and set out budgeted estimates for each piece of equipment.

They included a wide area mower, two 72-inch mowers, a utility work machine with attachments and an electric turf utility vehicle. The latter two pieces of equipment are new purchases for the Credit Union Spark Centre, while the mowers are for use by the parks department.

The tender for the two 72-inch mowers were awarded to Tractorland of Regina at a bid price of $41,254, with a trade-in.

The wide area mower and the electric turf utility machine were both awarded to 麻豆传媒AV Country Equipment, in the amounts of $79,075 and $16,855 respectively, and the utility work machine tender was awarded to Bobcat of Regina at the bid price of $88,170. All three of these equipment pieces do not include a trade-in.

Council was told that an additional $20,000 was needed as the wide mower price in particular was higher than was budgeted for.

City engineer Jen Wilkinson noted that the two 72-inch mowers being replaced will be converted into sprayers, and the current sprayers will be sold later at an auction.

鈥 In other council business, Coun. Dick Michel asked Wilkinson about the level of Nickle Lake in light of the snow melt currently underway, and the lack of runoff from the winter.

In the report from the water treatment plant to council, Nickle Lake鈥檚 level was reported to have dropped to 93 cm as of Feb. 28, with a total drop of 4.2 cm during February.

鈥淲e are always looking at the runoff situation,鈥 said Wilkinson, noting that staff are keeping track of the reservoir level every day.

Based on the last five years, she said the lake is about in the middle for levels at this time of year, and added, 鈥淲e still feel that Nickle Lake is at an acceptable level, based on the five-year history. We do still feel we have an ample level for providing water to the City of Weyburn.鈥
