The Weyburn Police Service received 71 calls for service during the week of Aug. 31 to Sept. 6. Of those 71 calls, 61 were cleared without charges, but 10 situations resulted in a total of 17 charges being laid.
Most charges were under the Traffic Safety Act for traffic violations, but five Criminal Code charges also resulted. The traffic charges included three motorists who were charged for using/holding a communication device while driving.
On Monday officers conducted a wellbeing check on an individual who was reportedly staggering near the railway tracks. The individual was found to be intoxicated, and was lodged in cells overnight and released in the morning without charge.
Officers also dealt with three calls of a mental health nature and an ongoing dispute between residential neighbours.
A local business requested police assistance on Tuesday to have an unwanted individual who was causing a disturbance removed from their premises. Officers attended and spoke to the person who had left the premises prior to officers arriving. No charges resulted.
Also on Tuesday, a local resident turned in unwanted ammunition to the WPS for destruction, and a warrant was issued for an individual who failed to appear in court as required.
Officers dealt with a variety of calls on Wednesday including a wellbeing check, a suspicious vehicle, a found bike, a garbage bin fire, and a gas 鈥渄rive-off鈥�. None of these calls resulted in charges.
WPS received a call of a suspected impaired driver with children in the vehicle on Thursday. The suspect vehicle was located and a traffic stop was conducted. The driver of the vehicle was found to be sober and allowed to carry on.
Officers responded to a domestic dispute call on Friday. Both parties were spoken to and charges are pending further investigation.
Officers also attended a call involving an emotionally disturbed person who required mental health assistance, a landlord-tenant dispute, and a complaint of a stolen bike.
WPS received a call on Saturday from a concerned individual who advised that an unknown male was flashing an edged weapon in a local establishment. Officers located and arrested the male without incident. The male was charged with failing to comply with an undertaking as well as two charges for possessing a weapon for a purpose dangerous to the public.
Officers also responded to a single vehicle collision with a building, a request to remove an intoxicated person from an establishment, and a person requiring mental health assistance.
