The Weyburn Police Service experienced a busy week, responding to 99 calls for service during the period of August 24 to 30.
Although most calls are resolved without charges, a total of 25 charges were laid during the week, including 10 under the Criminal Code of Canada, 12 under the Traffic Safety Act, one under the Alcohol and Gaming Act, and two under the City of Weyburn’s bylaws.
Officers responded to a wide variety of calls including several fraud calls/emails, harassing communications, wellbeing checks, alarm calls, and many others.
On Monday, officers responded to a SUV versus pedestrian collision. A youth sustained minor injuries after colliding with a SUV while attempting to cross the street on a scooter. No charges have been laid at this time.
A call for help to the River Park campground resulted in one individual being charged for assault and another charged for failing to comply with a condition of an undertaking.
Officers also responded to two local businesses reporting theft of merchandise. Both matters are currently under investigation but charges are likely.
On Tuesday, a total of five individuals were charged after failing to appear in court as required, resulting in warrants being issued for their arrest. WPS also received two reports of theft, one involving a bicycle that was taken from the front of a local business, and the other involving a lawnmower that was taken from behind a local business. The lawnmower was recovered and returned to the owner. No charges were laid at the request of the owner. The bicycle has not been located and is described as a black and orange BMX.
Officers attended a local residence after receiving a noise complaint. The occupant of the home was warned of the complaint and advised to keep the noise down. A second call regarding the noise, and a possible altercation between two individuals, resulted in the officers re-attending the same location. The altercation was resolved and the gathering was dispersed.
A report of vandalism to the Ag Society’s grandstands was received on Wednesday. The vandalism included graffiti as well as damage to some seating. The matter is being investigated.Â
Officers attended a local residence with urgency on Thursday upon receiving a call reporting an individual had damaged several items inside the home and locked themselves in a bedroom with a knife. The matter was resolved without incident and no charges have been laid at this time.
 The weekend was a bit quieter as Saturday saw officers attend a local residence to keep the peace as one individual obtained their personal belongings, and on Sunday a motorist received a driving suspension and a charge for unlawfully having open alcohol in a motor vehicle.
