Doug Loden, president of the Weyburn Rotary Club, passed a donation of $400 from the club members to Kathy Ereth of the Salvation Army on Thursday afternoon.
The Salvation Army is gearing up for the start of school, and is in need of a number of items to help out families in the Weyburn area, including hamburger helper, stove-top helper, and canned foods like vegetables and meats, as well as school snacks and juice boxes.
The Salvation Army provided 51 backpacks filled with school supplies to local families in anticipation of the reopening of school classes.
The numbers of families needing help right now has also been increasing, due to the impact of COVID-19 on the local economy.
The Salvation Army used funds to order in food supplies in anticipation of the needs of families and of school children in the coming weeks, but are appreciative of any food or monetary donations that residents might be able to provide.
Rotary has been providing donations based on the monies they would have been spending for their weekly luncheon meetings, which were held at the Legion prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In addition to the monthly donations, club members have been helping out at the Salvation Army when needed, such as in packing up the school supplies in the backpacks recently.
