Canada Day is just around the corner and those looking to celebrate the nation's birth will have ample chance to do so in Weyburn come Sunday, July 1.
Breakfast is a great way to start off any day, and Canada Day is no exception. The Royal Canadian Legion will be serving a pancake breakfast for $5 at the Weyburn Leisure Centre.
A day of free activities will follow at the Leisure Centre.
With the long-term forecast predicting sunny skies and a high of 23 C, the day looks perfect for swimming, face painting, crafts, children and family games and a children's bouncer. The day's events will be provided by the City of Weyburn from 9-11 a.m. and from 1-5 p.m.
"We want people to come out, have fun, and enjoy the day with their family," said Angela Fedun, cashier at the centre.
A tribute to Canada will take place at 10 a.m. when the Legion Colour Guard will be doing their Canada Day Flag Ceremony.
Following the ceremony the Weyburn Co-op will be serving up a Canada Day birthday cake from 10:30-11 a.m.
The Sun Country Kids Club will follow the cake with a barbecue from 11:30-1:30 p.m.
There will also be a display by the Ocean Man First Nation Performers. The performance will take place from noon-12:30.
The Soo Line Historical Museum will be selling Canada Day souvenirs for half price during the day's events.
Capping the day will be a fireworks display held at the Exhibition Grounds.
In observance of the Canada Day holiday, the Weyburn Review will be closed on Monday, July 2. Deadlines for the July 4 publication are 12 noon on Friday, June 29 for rural submissions, and 5 p.m. for news and sports submissions.
