The Weyburn Wor-Kin Shop commemorated 50 years of service at their Annual General Meeting on Monday evening at a small gathering.

鈥淏ack in 1971 when a group of community leaders came together to establish the Weyburn Wor-Kin Shop, their goal was to build an organization that serves our community,鈥 said Board Chair Lloyd Montgomery.

鈥淎fter 50 years, we continue that same mission 鈥 to provide support services so that citizens experiencing intellectual disabilities can achieve their ideal quality of life,鈥 added Montgomery, 鈥渟ome things remain unchanged.鈥

However, 50 years has seen change at the Wor-Kin Shop and for that reason the organization held a very small event to unveil a new logo, and to ask the community for their memories of the Wor-Kin Shop.

鈥淥ur new logo was designed in consultation with our participants to kick-off a new era, while bringing forward our traditional blue and green colours,鈥 explained Executive Director Jeff Richards.

鈥淭o continue the celebration for the rest of the year, we鈥檙e asking that folks who have memories, or pictures from the last 50 years send those in to us so that we can share them with everyone.鈥

Memories can be submitted via email to [email protected].

At the Annual General Meeting, the Wor-Kin Shop celebrated a successful year in 2020-2021, despite the challenges with COVID. The health and safety of the participants and staff remained the highest priority and the organization has remained open for service to the participants throughout.

鈥淲e鈥檙e so proud of our 50-year history, and the people who have made it all possible. But what we鈥檙e most excited about is what the next 50 years may bring,鈥 concluded Montgomery.
