The graduation ceremonies for the Class of 2020 will be virtual, set for Saturday, June 27 at 7 p.m., and a special event has been planned for that afternoon with a reverse parade to start at 1 p.m.
The grads will line up the length of the tree-lined Saskatchewan Drive, off King Street (as shown in the photo above), and friends, family and the community is invited to drive by to see all of the grads and wish them congratulations.
Organizers have asked for graduates to be dropped off at the entrance to Saskatchewan Drive, and volunteers will help direct them to their spot.
The grads are invited to be in their formal wear, or something comfortable if they wish, and they are permitted to have a lawn chair and a bottle of water.
The picturesque road, which was formerly the entrance to the Souris Valley grounds, will be barricaded off. There will be parking nearby on Fifth Avenue North, on the south side, or in the Community Health parking lot.
The grads are asked to be all in place by 12:45 p.m., with the parade to start at 1 p.m.
Organizers will have the spectators line up on Fifth Avenue, and then they are to proceed down Saskatchewan Drive and exit out to Queen Street, with drivers asked to keep the speed down to 10 to 15 km an hour.
For the virtual ceremonies, the graduates and speakers have pre-recorded their parts and WCS has hired a production company to compile them into a video.
The following is the list of speakers, and the order for the ceremonies:
O Canada, followed by the graduate introductions. There are 170 graduates in the Class of 2020.
Vanessa Gurniak will bring the invocation, and the Principal’s Address will be made by Ryan Fowler, followed by the School Board Greeting by trustee Brandon Tichkowsky.
The Tribute to Parents will be made by Maya Knipfel and Piper Abel, with the reply from the parents by Jodi Abel and Erica Matthews.
The Tribute to the Teachers and School will be made by Arliss Sidloski, and the reply from the teachers will be made by Donna Klein.
The Graduation Choir will perform, directed by Holly Butz, and the Valedictorian Address will be made by Brett Bowler.
The ceremonies will then wrap up with thank you’s.
