Canada's "Youngest Retiree', Derek Foster, will be giving a free talk on investment strategy at the Weyburn Public Library on Saturday, Aug. 11, from 10 to noon, to explain how he was able to retire at the age of 34.
Earlier this year he sold his house in Ottawa and decided to embark on a year-long pan-continental trip around North America with his wife and their five children.
After visiting Mount Rushmore in Â鶹´«Ã½AV Dakota, Foster's travels have brought him to the Weyburn area where he's enjoying community activities with his family.
On Saturday, he will explain how his investment strategy allowed him to retire at an early age.
His basic approach was to buy stocks that pay dividends, and not treat the stock market like a "get rich quick" lottery.
He noted many people get excited over glamour stocks like Apple, RIM and Nortel; Foster said he sticks to stocks simple enough for any six-year-old to illustrate with a crayon.
He will explain this whole approach and answer any questions audience members might have. The talk is free and open to anyone.
