Weyburn to celebrate Canada Day with full day of festivities

The festivities kick off at 10 a.m. with a flag ceremony.

WEYBURN – The City of Weyburn is set to host a jam-packed Canada Day celebration on July 1, featuring a variety of family-friendly activities, entertainment, and fireworks to cap of the evening.

Last year, approximately 1,000 people came through the Weyburn Leisure Centre, said Paige Tenbult, communications coordinator for the city.

“We would anticipate around the same this year, weather pending.”

The festivities kick off at 10 a.m. with a flag ceremony at the Weyburn Leisure Centre (532 – 5 Street NE), followed by the Legion Colour Guard and official greetings from dignitaries. At 11 a.m., the traditional birthday cake will be cut, marking the nation’s 158th anniversary.

From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., children can enjoy bouncy houses, a mobile play park,  and yard games, while a free barbecue runs from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Creative youngsters can take part in crafts and face painting from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and the Weyburn Leisure Centre will offer a free swim from noon to 4 p.m.

As dusk falls, the celebration will conclude with fireworks at the Exhibition grounds begging around 10:30 p.m.

The Weyburn Agricultural Society will be showing Despicable Me 4 with doors open at 7:15 p.m. and the movie starting at 7:45 p.m.
