PRINCE ALBERT - The main news from the day's Wildfire Update is that the provincial State of emergency is set to expire.
According to the news release from SPSA, the provincial wildfire State of Emergency will expire at 11:59 p.m. tonight.
SPSA says that with the expiry of the State of Emergency, the SPSA will return to providing media wildfire updates as necessary.
As of 3 p.m. there are 20 active wildfires in Saskatchewan. Two are contained, six are not contained, nine are ongoing assessment and three are listed as protecting values. Saskatchewan has had 268 wildfires so far this year, compared to the five-year average of 169 to date.
Only one community, East Trout Lake, is still under an evacuation order: East Trout Lake. SPSA adds that priority individuals from Creighton and Denare Beach have been repatriated.
SPSA says that its Recovery Task Team continues to meet with community leaders to discuss recovery efforts.
As well, they are reporting over $5.1 million has been transferred to residents and to communities distributing $500 Government of Saskatchewan Financial Assistance to residents impacted. The SPSA adds that it is is continuing to coordinate with communities that have asked for its support in distributing this financial assistance.
