Nicky and Jared Ruf, owners and operators of In Good Taste in Togo have acquired the former Waves business at Duck Mountain Provincial Park, which they have re-named The Sweet Spot. The business includes a mini-golf course where the couple was photographed recently with their children Ella, seated, and Flynn.

KAMSACK — A testament to the heart and appetities of small-town Saskatchewan, Jared and Nicky Ruf, the owners of In Good Taste, the Togo-based food processing and catering business, has also opened The Sweet Spot at Madge Lake.

The Rufs, who have been operating In Good Taste for 18 years, recently expanded their business to Madge Lake. The couple’s background in food service has become valuable in their experience in their newest business avenue.

“We ran the Border Mountain House restaurant at the Madge Lake recreation hall on weekends during the winters of 2021-22 and 2022-23,” Jared said, adding that The Sweet Spot will carry Border Mountain House pizzas, as well as a selection of In Good Taste products,” adds Ruf.

The inspiration behind starting up In Good Taste came from a business owned by Ruf’s mom, and the couple purchased it from her, seeing potential to sustain and grow what had been started.

The Rufs’ business is operated out of a special commercial production facility located in Togo.

Ruff says they have five full-time employees in production season and as many as nine employees at the peak of the season.

You may have noticed this product in stores across the province. Ruf affirms that they have supplies both retail and wholesale food service businesses since the early 2000s. they also include fundraising opportunities and have since the early 2000’s as well.

“We have groups throughout all three prairie provinces that sell our products for a 25 per cent profit to them,” adds Ruf.

Ruf also acknowledges, “Word of mouth is the key to promotion of our business, we strive for professional high-quality catering and food products. We have found this is the number one way to promote your business as people will always share how good a product or meal at an event is.”

This commercial manufacturing company does everything from catering large events to producing over 40 different kinds of food products sold throughout western Canada. Ruf says that 90% of their business is done outside of their local area of Togo and Kamsack.

The business website states, “Through food we discover the customs and rituals of a culture, make new friends and wonderful memories. On the vast Canadian prairies, no event is complete without the tradition of dessert slices being served, referred to by the locals as "squares".

Remarkably, this tradition has been turned into a thriving food processing business located in , a small community of 150 people snug to the Manitoba border about 80 kilometres northeast of Yorkton.

The business has expanded offering cabbage rolls, perogies, pre-formed frozen cookie dough and much more.
