Kamsack Hospital is currently without emergency room and inpatient services due to insufficient physician coverage. This is a temporary reduction and the Hospital is not closing.
The Kamsack Hospital will remain open during the service interruption and Sunrise Health Region is maintaining other services at the facility during this interruption.
Emergency room and inpatient services will return to normal once coverage is available. Emergency room and inpatient care for residents of the Kamsack area will be temporarily provided at other facilities in the region. These arrangements may be necessary throughout the summer until sufficient physician coverage can be restored.
Two physicians have been recruited to the area but are not expected to arrive before fall. Kamsack Hospital emergency and inpatient services could be reinstated sooner if locum physician coverage becomes available. As new developments emerge, the health region
remains committed to inform the public through the local media. Additionally, the Sunrise Health Region Information Line provides daily recorded updates of illness outbreaks or service interruptions at 1-866-800-5510.
In an emergency, people in the Kamsack area should call 911 for an ambulance or go to the emergency room in the Canora Hospital or the Yorkton Regional Health Centre.
Ambulance charges are a non-insured benefit of Saskatchewan Health and fees are the responsibility of the individual accessing the service.
