Yorkton police are investigating a pair of armed robberies that occurred in the city last week.

At around 12:45 pm on Wednesday afternoon, a male suspect entered a business on the 100 block of Broadway Street West armed with a hunting knife and wearing a white bandana over his face. He made off on foot with cigarettes and an unknown amount of cash.

The two women working in the business at the time were unharmed.

The suspect is described as a slender man in his early 20s, approximately 5'5" to 5'8" tall, with short dark hair, a clean-shaven face, and a medium complexion. He was wearing a baby-blue Toronto Blue Jays baseball hat. Based on varying descriptions, police say the suspect "may or may not have acne."

A security camera photo of the suspect has been released.

A second robbery was reported on Friday morning at around 11:15. A female employee of a business on the 100 block of Gladstone Avenue North was robbed at knifepoint by a male suspect, who once again made off with cigarettes and cash.

The victim was unharmed.

The suspect in this case is described as a First Nations male in his early 20s, approximately 5'5" to 5'7" tall, with shorter dark hair, a slender to average build, and a medium-toned complexion. He wore a grey and black jacket, black pants, a white neck bandana, a dark coloured toque, and round sunglasses.

The suspect fled the scene in an older purple-colored four-door car with damage to its rear end. It is believed to have been driven by a second suspect.

Although the descriptions of the two robberies are similar, police are not speculating about a connection between the incidents.

RCMP ask anyone with information about either crime to contact them at 786-2400 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
