The Kelvington Agricultural Society will be hosting its 98th聽Summer Fair this July 30 to Aug. 1.聽
The Society made the decision to go ahead with the event only recently after having cancelled the 2020 fair because of COVID-19.聽
鈥淚t鈥檚 exciting, and scary all at the same time,鈥� said Society president Rylan By. 鈥溾�� It was a big decision.鈥澛�
By said the Society had been holding off making a final decision as long as they could, hoping the pandemic situation would ease and allow them to go forward.聽
鈥淲e were doing what we could, hanging on as long as we could before we making a final decision,鈥� he said.聽
Finally, as the province released its re-opening roadmap By said things looked positive to go ahead.聽
鈥淲e took a look at that (roadmap), and by August we should be in the clear,鈥� he said.聽
By added they really did want to go forward as the Society鈥檚 100th聽anniversary is only two years away and they didn鈥檛 want to cancel for a second year fearing they might not manage to restart if they did.聽
Of course with the late decision, By said they now face a big job to be ready.聽
鈥淚t鈥檚 crunch time. There鈥檚 so much work,鈥� he said, adding the plan is to offer a fair very much in line with previous events. He said the Society didn鈥檛 want to offer anything but a full fair schedule.聽
鈥淪o many people have been involved (over the years) ... and they take pride in the way we do things,鈥� said By.聽
By said while some may shy away as thoughts of COVID-19 linger, he expects a good response to the fair鈥檚 return.聽
鈥淓verybody鈥檚 itching to do something. If you are ready to do something we鈥檙e here,鈥� he said.聽
