This year marks the 25th year of operations for Saskatchewan Trade and Export Partnership (STEP) as an export and market development organization.聽
Over the past 25 years, Saskatchewan has seen remarkable growth in international trade with total exports more than tripling to $30.3B in 2020. Saskatchewan is the only province in Canada to record an increase in exports for the year.
STEP鈥檚 unique public-private partnership has allowed the organization to play a key role as the province鈥檚 export catalyst.聽 STEP鈥檚 services include assisting exporters develop business in new markets as well as introducing incoming buyers to Saskatchewan.聽 STEP also provides market research, and customized advice and guidance to its members based on extensive knowledge of and experience in international trade.
Marlin Stangeland, Chair of STEP鈥檚 Board of Directors and CEO of Shercom Industries Inc.,said that exports are critical to a healthy and growing province.
鈥淲ith trade being an integral part of our economy, STEP will continue to play an essential role in growing Saskatchewan in partnership with the Provincial Government,鈥� Stangeland said. 鈥淐oupled with the existing and newly announced international offices, we look forward to 25 more years of export success.鈥�
The past year saw enhanced services offered to STEP members in response to export constraints caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.聽 New and enhanced services are now in place to assist exporters re-establish their presence in existing markets.
鈥淭he correlation between the success of this organization and the strong growth and continued increases in exports is a testament to the success of our membership base,鈥� he noted.聽 鈥淚n an ever-changing business climate, we remain confident in our members鈥� abilities. 聽The past 25 years is proof that given a level playing field, Saskatchewan exporters can compete with anyone on the international stage.鈥�
STEP鈥檚 25th Anniversary year will culminate at the Annual General Meeting on October 21, 2021 which highlight the efforts and successes of STEP鈥檚 long-term founding and current members, current and past Board of Directors and staff.
