Every year a major junior team is selected to host the Memorial Cup, junior hockey's top prize. This year the Quebec Ramparts are hosting, and when a team hosts they are given an automatic berth in the tournament that features four teams.

The Battlefords AAA Stars evened the SMAAAHL final at one game each after a 5-2 win over the Regina Pat Canadians at the Civic Centre Tuesday. The Stars got goals from five different players and 26 saves from Brett Pongracz in the win.

I know what you鈥檙e thinking, 鈥渢he season hasn鈥檛 even started yet, how is that possible?鈥� Well, if you鈥檝e been following what鈥檚 been happening with the Blue Jays in the (extremely) early going so far this season, you would understand.

The Game Changer

The Battlefords AAA Stars reached the SMAAAHL final for the second consecutive season with their game five win in Tisdale Thursday.

They had to hang on for their lives at the end, but hang on they did, and the Hafford Hawks are the Saskatchewan Prairie Hockey League Champions.

Another season has come and gone for the Battlefords North Stars. Their quest for a championship came to an abrupt halt Wednesday night with a 4-0 loss to the Kindersley Klippers in their opening round match up.

The St. Walburg Eagles have another chance to win the North Saskatchewan River Hockey League title Friday. Last weekend the Meadow Lake Stampeders avoided losing the championship on home ice with a 5-4 overtime win in game five.

The Hafford Hawks can win the SPHL championship at the Civic Centre tomorrow. The Hawks won game three 5-2 at the Battleford Arena, setting up the potential for a series win tomorrow night.

The Battlefords AAA Midget Stars will once again play an all-or-nothing game this post season. In the first round they beat the Saskatoon Contacts at home in game five to advance and face the league-leading Tisdale Trojans.
