Brody Tatchell had a goal and four assists to lead the Meota Combines to a 6-5 win in game one of their best of five series with the Shellbrook Silvertips. Tatchell assisted on Meota's final four goals for the win in Shellbrook.

It was a bit of an up-and-down week for the Humboldt Broncos as they picked up two wins sandwiched around a blowout loss. The week began on Jan. 28 with a 3-2 win in Nipawin against the Hawks.

Maybe there's something in the water. Whatever the reason, Humboldt has become the epicenter of athletic excellence in Saskatchewan.

The Battlefords AAA Sharks played three tight games against the Saskatoon Stars in the SMFAAAHL. The Sharks won two of the three games played between the teams. The Sharks used the shootout to beat Saskatoon Jan.

The Battlefords AAA Stars picked up a win and a tie against the Generals in SMAAAHL action last weekend in Moose Jaw. Layne Young scored with 1:36 remaining in overtime to give the Stars a 3-2 victory over the Generals Saturday night at Mosaic Place.

Two of the 20 curling teams playing in the Canadian Tire Thursday Open League have remained undefeated after four weeks of play in 2014. Mike Lehman and Allan Hoffman skipped their teams to victories Jan.

Three was the number when the New Horizons curled Jan. 28. Each ice saw that score recorded, three of them in the first end.Doug Belyk played on sheet one again.

After the final weekend of the SPHL's regular season, the Cut Knife Colts finished the season in first place. The Colts split their final two games of the season. Cut Knife travelled to Glaslyn to face off against the North Stars Jan. 29.

Battlefords North Stars goaltender Michael Gudmandson picked up two SJHL awards this week. Gudmandson was named the SJHL's goaltender of the month for January. Over the course of the month, he won seven games, two of which were shutouts.

The Battleford Beaver Blues and Meota Combines enter the 2014 SPHL playoffs with losses to the Spiritwood Timberwolves.
