Brent Salzl scored with less than four minutes to go in the third period to give the Battlefords Beaver Blues a 4-3 win in their home opener at the Battleford Arena against the Perdue Pirates Saturday night.

The Broncos ruined the homecoming of Cody Pettapiece in a 4-2 win on Dec. 8 over his new team, the Weyburn Red Wings.

Battlefords North Stars goaltender Darren Martin was named the SJHL goaltender of the week for the period ending Dec. 8. The Calgary-native made one start for the North Stars during the week, a 2-1 shootout win over the Weyburn Red Wings.

Latrell Charleson scored the decisive goal in the shootout as the Battlefords North Stars beat the Weyburn Red Wings 2-1 Saturday night. North Stars' goaltender Darren Martin made 36 saves and stopped all three shooters during the shootout.

The Battlefords AAA Sharks travelled to Swift Current last weekend to play two games against the Wildcats in SMFAAAHL action. The Sharks lost both games by the same 4-0 score. Saturday's game saw a scoreless first period between the teams.

It had to end sometime. Tyler Fuhr stopped 35 of 36 shots as the La Ronge Ice Wolves ended Battlefords' eight-game winning streak by beating the North Stars 2-1 at the Civic Centre Sunday night.

The Battlefords Midget AAA Stars hosted the Tisdale Trojans for two games at the Civic Centre last weekend. The teams split the games. The Stars won 5-2 Saturday afternoon, while the Trojans beat Battlefords 5-4 Sunday.

The Wilkie Outlaws climbed to the top of the NSRHL last weekend with two wins on the road against the Meadow Lake Stampeders. Wilkie (5-0) opened the weekend with a 3-1 win Saturday night. Kyle Wagner had a goal and an assist for the Outlaws.

The Battleford Midget AA Barons extended their winning streak to five last weekend after winning all three games played in the CFHL. Battleford started the weekend with a win on the road in Turtleford, beating the Midwest Redwings 3-2 Friday night.

The Meota Combines won their first SPHL game Sunday night, beating the Glaslyn North Stars 6-2 at the Civic Centre. The Combines opened the scoring in the first period on Al Howat's first goal of the season.
