A few more golfers than last year took advantage of sunny skies and balmy conditions to take part in the annual Battlefords United Way golf tournament at Jackfish Lake.

It was a weekend of highs and lows for the Muenster AA Midget Red Sox. The team slogged it out in the hot sun over the weekend, but it paid off in the end because the AA Midget baseball team is going to Provincials.

The Battlefords North Stars completed a player transaction acquiring the CJHL rights to defenseman Connor Sutton from the Dauphin Kings, in exchange for the CJHL rights to 20-year-old forward Tim Rollins.

North Battleford's own left-handed pitcher Andrew Albers was one of three New Britain Rock Cats selected to the Eastern League All-Star Team. Albers and his teammates will play Wednesday in Reading, Pa. Albers is 3-2 with a 3.

There are two outings of the New Horizons to report. The first was Thursday, July 5 when the number one team at one under par was the last team out. Herman Friesen, Ken Holiday and Irwin Temple took the honours.

Just weeks after it was announced Martin Smith was hired as the Battlefords Midget Stars coach, the coaching staff and board turned their focus to recruiting players. Smith announced last week the Stars have signed two local area players.
