The Battlefords Minor Hockey Association and Battlefords Female Hockey Association had a busy weekend with league and tournament games for the teams and for some it was a good weekend, for others it may be one they want to forget soon.

It was their chance to shine and despite playing their best games of the season, the host team didn't get a medal.

The Humboldt Collegiate Institute (HCI) Mohawks knocked the Kindersley Kobras out of provincial nine-man football playoffs with a 50-14 win in their quarter-final match on October 30.

Chief Poundmaker was second best at regionals and second best at provincials on the weekend at Lake Lenore. Poundmaker played Regina Western Christian in the first game Friday and held on for a 6-3 win.

The Cando senior boys' soccer team made their 19 wins look easy all season and they did it again at provincials winning the seven versus seven provincial title.

More changes are coming for the Battlefords North Stars.

With volleyball playoffs just over a week away, the North Battleford Comprehensive High School senior boys' team appears to be peaking at the right time.

Some glaring mistakes and a bad five minutes were the difference when the Battlefords Stars hosted the Prince Albert Mintos Wednesday at the Civic Centre. "We took five minutes off and it cost us," said Stars' assistant coach Derek Schmidt.

The Lake Lenore Lancers have some shiny gold hardware around their necks after winning Provincials over the weekend.

It was a scary Halloween weekend for goaltenders during two weekend tilts between the Battlefords Stars and Yorkton Harvest in Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League action.
