Ed, my old neighbour in Saskatchewan, smirked when he said, 鈥淚 want a liquid diet if it鈥檚 whiskey.鈥� I had told Ed I was on a liquid diet for a medical test.

As I continue my daily Bible reading, I鈥檝e just finished reading the book of Esther. Honestly, I found it a welcome change from the huge lists of people, their names and details of their responsibilities.

Dear Editor We just finished watching the 2020 Euro soccer final. The soccer players are true athletes, but what struck me the most throughout the whole series was the true patriotism of the players and fans.

Many of the world鈥檚 centenarians are gardeners.

How much wood would a woodchuck chuck, if a woodchuck could chuck wood? Under my breath I recited this old children鈥檚 tongue-twister as I rumbled along a dusty dirt road this week. I drove my Uncle Don鈥檚 old half ton with a heavy load of timber.

I鈥檓 not sure if July 4 celebrations were different this year for our U.S. neighbours, but here in Canada our recognition of July 1, Canada Day, certainly was. In fact, it could be said that anything but enthusiasm marked the day for many people.

Container gardening is a great art and can even make gardening easier. Anywhere in the landscape containers can have a place. As life evolves we often have less space to garden in and time always seems to be in short supply.

Those who raise grapes know grapevines need yearly pruning, otherwise, the grapes will be smaller and less plentiful. Jesus speaks of our need to be pruned so we can bear more fruit.

Dear Editor It was nearing the end of a midwinter day in the 1980s and we had just finished a workshop hosted by Saskatchewan鈥檚 foster care program.
