Suspect allegedly tried to grab officer's firearm during arrest

Police were called to the 3200 block of 6th Avenue East for a report of a mischief in progress where a male was stabbing vehicle tires with a screwdriver.

PRINCE ALBERT - The Prince Albert Police Service has arrested and charged one man with attempting to disarm a police officer following an incident where the man resisted arrest in relation to a mischief investigation.

On June 8 at around 5:30 p.m., police were called to the 3200 block of 6th Avenue East for a report of a mischief in progress, where a male was stabbing vehicle tires with a screwdriver.

Responding officers quickly located a male matching the suspect description.

While attempting to arrest the suspect male, he began to resist arrest and assault a police officer. The suspect then attempted to grab an officer’s firearm from its holster.

The man was successfully arrested shortly after.

As a result, the 25-year-old man has been charged with possession of a weapon, attempting to disarm a police officer, assaulting a police officer, and resisting arrest.
