Kindersley Regional Park Authority plans to seek three quotes before proceeding with an irrigation improvement project later this fall.

KINDERSLEY — The Kindersley Regional Park Authority plans to ask its board at the authority’s May 29 meeting for approval of a loan to finance a new irrigation system at its golf course.

Minutes from the authority’s April 17 meeting were received by town council and its meeting May 12 and included details of the proposed loan request as well as a presentation from JT Sprinkler Systems.

The park board plans to borrow up to $400,000 from Synergy Credit Union to help replace the course’s existing irrigation system, which is over 35 years old.

The motion to apply for the loan followed the presentation from JT, which proposed a single-row irrigation system of sprinklers which can be individually timed and operated remotely from a computer or mobile device.

JT added it expected to need three weeks to install its system, with work beginning roughly around Thanksgiving.

The quote from JT is being compared against one from fellow Saskatoon company C&F Installations, which was received before the authority’s March meeting.

A motion at that meeting indicated the board would procure three quotes before awarding the contract.

The authority also hopes to raise money through either debentures – essentially private citizen or business loans of $1,000 or more – or direct donations to the town office.

Debentures would be held for five years and repaid with an additional five per cent interest for each year the loan was held.

A mass mailout soliciting support for the irrigation system, including a pitch directly to golf club members, was discussed at the March meeting, and the overall response is on the agenda for the park board’s May 29 meeting.

Golf course security was also discussed in April as greens superintendent Jim Besharah reported catalytic converters were stolen during a break-and-enter to the shop by the driving range over the winter.

Later in the meeting, it was reported that the course’s men’s club would install fake cameras for storage sheds on the premises.

Elsewhere around the golf club, bridge repairs were to be completed on hole No. 1, a motion was passed to purchase a new cash register for the pro shop, a new dishwasher has been installed in the lounge and Miranda Dufault was introduced as the new club house manager.
