REGINA — The Prairie Valley School Division (PVSD) board of education is adding further supports for students in their 2025-2026 budget.
Per a media release, the school board will increase front-line staff members and the dedicated complexity funding to help support vulnerable students in the classroom.
“This is a good step towards restoring sustainable investment in public education, but continued increases are needed to close the gap caused by years of underfunding,” said board chair Janet Kotylak.
The PVSD is getting $3.6 million to address classroom complexity. Of that, $2.7 million will address complexity challenges, and $0.9 million will address rural complex challenges.
Additional funding was provided to the board for transportation deficits and aging transportation needs.
The school board will also use $750,000 for its preventative, maintenance and renewal (PMR).
This will tackle ongoing infrastructure upgrades delayed by financial constraints in the past years.
The PVSD said their staffing will increase by 32 full-time equivalent positions, improving the pupil-teacher ratio.
However, these improvements come with a $340,678 cash deficit in 2025-2026 that will be covered by reserves.
