ESTEVAN — Estevan Fire Rescue Service (EFRS) responded to multiple calls between June 25 and 28, with all incidents determined to be non-emergencies.
On the morning of June 25 shortly after 10 a.m., EFR was dispatched to a commercial fire alarm in the northeast area of the city. Firefighters confirmed there was no emergency, with the alarm triggered by cleaning activities.
A day later, on June 26 just after 2 p.m., crews were called to investigate a noxious odour in the same area after several public complaints. EFR determined the smell was the result of a chemical being offloaded at a commercial property. Winds had carried the odour through nearby areas, but the situation was not hazardous and dissipated quickly after the offloading was completed.
Later that day around 3 p.m., EFR responded to another commercial fire alarm in the city’s northwest. The cause was traced to nearby machinery, with no fire or danger present.
On June 28 at about 10 a.m., crews were dispatched to a possible transformer fire in the city’s north-central area. The scene was secured and the issue was believed to be caused by wildlife contacting the power lines. SaskPower was notified and responded to further investigate the matter.
In addition to emergency responses, EFR also participated in community events. On June 26, firefighters visited Sacred Heart School’s track day to provide a spray-down for students. Later that day, they took part in a Touch a Truck event hosted by the Estevan Early Years Resource Centre.
