Estevan police conduct additional training

Police say there is no risk to the public from the increased police presence.

ESTEVAN — The Estevan Police Service is conducting more training at the Willow Park Greens Trailer Park.

The EPS announced on May 28 that it will be in the 400-block of Willow Park Greens from 1-5:30 p.m. on May 29. There will be an increased police presence in that area while training is ongoing and there is no risk to the public.

Police also conducted training in the area on May 21.

In other recent police news, officers handled numerous calls May 28.

A report was received of a vehicle having a window broken overnight.  Nothing was removed from the vehicle and the matter remains under investigation.

EPS members attended a report of a domestic disturbance occurring in the street in a central Estevan neighbourhood. Both parties were spoken to and warned of their behaviour before being sent on their way.

A credit card fraud over $5,000 was reported to the EPS. Several fraudulent charges were made without the owner’s knowledge. The matter has been reported to the credit card company and a criminal investigation is ongoing.

A hit-and-run collision was reported at the Estevan Comprehensive School. Witness statements and CCTV footage are being obtained to assist in the investigation.

Members conducted a well-being check on an individual reported to be suicidal. The EPS and the Police and Crisis Team located the person, who was transported to the hospital for further assessment.

EPS received several reports of fireworks going off in the 600-block of King Street. The homeowner was spoken to and warned of his actions. The EPS reminds the public that fireworks are not permitted to be set off within the city limits.

Police responded to a report of a dog attacking another canine. Both owners were spoken to and neither animal was injured. A warning was issued for a dog running at large as it left the yard without the owner knowing.

Police received calls about an intoxicated male walking westbound on Third Street. The male was located and transported to a sober friend’s residence. It was reported that he had been looking in vehicles but nothing was located.

The EPS conducted numerous curfew checks on individuals bound by court-ordered conditions.  One person was not at their approved residence during curfew hours and charges are pending.

A 28-year old Estevan man was arrested and charged with theft under $5,000 in relation to a theft reported on May 27. He was released with a court appearance in July to speak to the charges and the stolen items were recovered.
