ESTEVAN — The Estevan Police Service has been busy recently with reports of a theft from a business, a fraud, impaired drivers and more.
The EPS was notified of a theft from a local business June 17. Thefts have occurred after business hours and extra patrols have been arranged in the area. The matter remains under investigation.
Police attended to a vacant business lot in the east industrial area for a report of suspicious people and vehicles on the property. All parties were spoken to and further inquiries are being conducted to determine if they have been permitted to remain on the property.
A fraud involving crypto currency has been reported to the EPS. Police remind the public to use caution when investing money and ask them to inquire and educate themselves about who they are dealing with. Financial institutions are a resource for the public.
Police received a report of the theft of a blue Rocky Mountain bicycle. As the EPS is currently investigating several bike thefts, members are asking for the public’s assistance to limit opportunities for these thefts by properly securing bikes when leaving them unattended, and not leaving them in plain view on properties.
EPS members are investigating a report of a person causing a disturbance at a local restaurant. Witness statements have been obtained and the matter is under investigation.
Police attended to a burglar alarm at a local financial institution. The building was found to be secure and no further police involvement was necessary.
EPS were called to the Hillside area for a report of a suspicious male walking along the sidewalk. He was located and it was determined nothing criminal had occurred, so he was sent on his way.
A 29-year old male from Paradise Hill turned himself in on an outstanding warrant from another jurisdiction. He was arrested and subsequently released with a new court date.
Police were summoned to a local liquor establishment to assist staff members who had been approached by people loitering and harassing them as they left the building. Members attended, the staff members were safely escorted to their vehicles and the unwanted people were sent on their way.
The EPS received a report June 19 of suspicious individuals sleeping at a local park. Members attended and sent them on their way.
A 911 hang-up call resulted in members attending to a residence to assist EMS with a male in medical distress.
A male who is known to police was reported to be trespassing at a local business. Members located the individual and he was charged with trespassing.
A report of a break and enter to a local business was received during dayshift. The business was vandalized during the incident and the matter remains under investigation.
A female victim reported to be receiving indecent communications through her cellphone. A statement was obtained and the matter is under investigation.
Concerned individuals reported observing a male walking down the middle of the road on the west side of the city. EPS members located the male and he was subsequently transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital for assessment.
A suspicious male was reported to have jumped the fence into a secure area at a local business. Members attended following the report and searched the area but were unable to locate the male.
Multiple curfew checks occurred during the nightshift. One individual was not home and will be arrested and charged for breaching his conditions when located.
A traffic stop was conducted to check for operator sobriety. Signs of impairment were noted and a roadside standardized field sobriety test was conducted, in which the individual performed poorly. The motorist was arrested and transported to St. Joe's for blood samples and charges are pending the results of the samples' analysis.
EPS received a report of birds being shot within city limits. Members attended the location and determined that no birds had been shot, but an injured bird was located that could not be saved, so it was euthanized and disposed of.
A driving complaint regarding an erratic driver resulted in a traffic stop of the vehicle and a warning being issued regarding driving actions.
