One person charged for assault in Estevan

EPS members respond to 44 calls for service during the weekend.

ESTEVAN — The Estevan Police Service arrested one person for assault in recent days.

According to the June 13 police report, EPS members conducted an investigation into an incident, which resulted in an Estevan male being arrested, charged and subsequently released on conditions of no contact with the victim.

In other recent police news, the EPS received a report of a mischief to a motor vehicle on June 12. The matter is still under investigation.

A well-being check was requested on a female at an apartment complex in north-central Estevan.  Members attended and contacted the female but she declined services. The EPS Police and Crisis Team will follow up with the female in the near future to attempt to connect her with services.

A deer was reported to be caught in a fence in the city. EPS and conservation officers were unable to attend due to other ongoing matters. The complainant’s family was able to free the animal prior to police arriving.

A dispute between two neighbours over a property line was attended to by EPS members. A resolution was mediated until the matter can be resolved through other city departments.

Police received a report of criminal harassment. The matter is under investigation.

A female was reported to be causing a disturbance at a local apartment complex. EPS members attended but the female had left prior to their arrival.

Police attended to the Willow Park Greens home park June 13 for a report from several youths who thought they heard someone inside a residence asking for help. Members checked the building and determined it was vacant.

Police received a report of a person uttering threats. A statement was obtained and the matter is still under investigation.

A grossly intoxicated male was reported to be passed out near the water tower. Members located the individual and arrested him for public intoxication. He was lodged in EPS cells until sober.

Police received a report of someone screaming in the Westview area. Members attended and located an Estevan female on her deck who was screaming out statements about the city and her neighbours. The EPS said she was under the influence of drugs and indicated that she intended to continue screaming. She was arrested for breaching the peace and lodged in cells to be released when sober.

The EPS received a second complaint of an individual uttering threats. The matter is still under investigation.

Police received a report June 15 of two individuals fighting and throwing items at each other at a downtown parking lot. On arrival, the EPS identified a male and female as the subjects of the complaint. The female had come to visit a tenant at a nearby hotel and had an exchange with another customer. Both individuals were cautioned about their behaviour and sent on their way.

The EPS received a report of a female who attended a local restaurant and claimed to be hungry, but didn’t have any money. A kind staff member at the business bought a meal for the female, but after she was done she continued to loiter. Police attended and transported the female to her residence.

Police received a request from Estevan Emergency Medical Services to assist with an intoxicated individual who had fallen. Members attended but on arrival, the EMS already had her in the ambulance. She was transported and admitted to St. Joseph's Hospital for medical care.

A complaint was filed regarding several vehicles being driven erratically at an east-side business' parking lot. Members attended and monitored traffic in the area but didn’t observe anything that warranted enforcement action at the time.

The EPS received a total of 44 calls for service over the weekend. Police lodged four individuals in cells during the weekend, all of which were subsequently released from custody.
