Unity – Low oil prices might help or hinder the turnout, sponsorships and donations at this year’s 14th annual Oil Persons Bonspiel in Unity.

A new chair for the palliative care room at St. Joseph’s Hospital was recently donated, reflecting the calmness and passion of the woman who wanted to give back to the place that took care of her for months prior to her passing.

It was a good night for 19 community organizations during the Lions Club’s dinner and donation evening Jan. 27. The local club handed out $25,000 to the groups during the event at the Nicholson Centre.

Dozens of residents assembled in the Affinity Place Jan. 29 to take a stab at ice skating.

Lloydminster – An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Keep that adage in mind when expensive oilfield equipment or components break down during this current low oil price environment.

Wainwright – The annual Wainwright and District Oilmen’s Bonspiel will take place from Jan. 30 to Feb. 1. It will be the 37thannual version of the bonspiel.

Lloydminster – When the thermometer plunges, sales of warm clothes for work or play heat up at Northern Factory Workwear in Lloydminster and Saskatoon.

Weyburn – The Saskatchewan Oil and Gas Show, commonly referred to as the Weyburn Oil Show, will take place this year on June 3-4. June 2 will include the exhibitors’ golf tournament as well as steak and lobster supper.

Estevan – The start of the year has been good, but as for later this year, that’s another story.

Regina – The Regina edition of the Williston Basin Petroleum Conference seems to have all the luck. The annual conference, which alternates between Regina and Bismarck, N.D.
