UC Chimes: Like weather forecasting

A construction worker who came from Newfoundland said, "a Weather guy lies five times a week and gets paid, but I am working so hard for minimum wage." Of course that is only a Newfie joke.

No sweeter feeling than going home

In all the world there is no better feeling than coming home. There is no stronger word to capture the emotions: home for Christmas, home for the holidays, home-word bound.

Finding the notes

It's close to sixteen years since I was first invited to submit a weekly column to some of my favourite publications. With the exception of a few trips to the hospital I haven't missed sending in any musings.

UC Chimes: Grief, death and hope

During the last few weeks, eight people have passed away in the Carlyle and district area. Their ages varied from their twenties to over one hundred years. The majority of them were relatively young.

UC Chimes: Lenten season begins

According to the Solar Terms of 24 Seasons in the Oriental Calendar, last Monday, Feb. 4, was the beginning day of spring. Called "ipchun" in Korean, it means "start of spring" or "spring begins." The Solar Terms of 24 Seasons is a seasonal calendar.

Tender moments

In a pain-filled week of human suffering it would have been easy to think that there wasn't much more to life than that. It we let them, news reports of war, gang rape, killing sprees and more can dominate the air waves and deaden the soul.

Choose life! Choose life! A Christian imperative!

A good way to measure Christian ethics is with the question "What would Christ do?" Love always triumphs. Good trumps greed or hate or any sin. For some time I have debated whether or not to write about the thorny issue of abortion.
