Bienfait student wins RC gold medal in violin

Claire Miller, 15, of Bienfait received the top mark in Saskatchewan on the Level 4 violin examination conducted by the Royal Conservatory of Music. 

As a result of this achievement, Claire was awarded the Conservatory’s gold medal with the presentation being made at the University of Regina on Nov. 29 by Thomas Green, the chief examiner in Saskatchewan. 

Claire is studying violin under the guidance of her instructor Shannon Daae of Torquay. 

The Conservatory noted that gold medals are awarded each academic year to examination candidates in preparatory A and B and Grades 1 to 10 who achieve the highest mark in their respective province or designated region. Eligible candidates must score at least 80 per cent on their practical exam and must have completed the co-requisite theory examinations for their respective grade and discipline.

The Royal Conservatory of Music is one of the largest and highly respected music and arts education institutions in the world since it provides a definitive standard of excellence through its curriculum, assessments, performances and teacher education and certification programs. The courses of study are effectively sequenced with examinations starting at the beginner level and continuing through to the advanced levels. Each year the Conservatory conducts close to 100,000 written examinations.
