CAA Saskatchewan will host approximately 77 patrollers and 21 chaperones for the 27th Annual CAA Saskatchewan School Safety Patrol Jamboree, May 4-6 in Regina.
The Jamboree is held during CAA School Safety Patrol Week, May 1-6, as proclaimed by the Government of Saskatchewan. 鈥淚 appreciate the dedication of the school safety patrollers and their continued efforts to keep their fellow students safe,鈥� said Deputy Premier and Minister of Education Don Morgan.
鈥淭heir participation in the School Safety Program shows their ongoing commitment to safety and learning. I鈥檇 also like to thank CAA Saskatchewan for giving these students the opportunity to improve traffic safety at their school and for celebrating their leadership at the Jamboree.鈥�
Heather Laing, Chair of the Board of Directors for CAA Saskatchewan, fondly recalls her days as a CAA School Safety Patroller at Saskatoon鈥檚 College Park School. 鈥淚 learned a lot about pedestrian safety and was happy to share this knowledge with my fellow students. Having been a patroller, and now through CAA鈥檚 advocacy and safety programs, such as the CAA School Safety Patrol, I understand and appreciate the importance of student and school zone safety,鈥� remarked Laing.
鈥淲e acknowledge and thank our student patrollers for their valuable volunteer time. We also appreciate the involvement of the CAA School Safety Patrol coordinators, the local law enforcement, and other community partners that work with our young patrollers to help keep school zones safe for students of all ages.鈥�
The CAA Saskatchewan 2017 School Safety Patrol Jamboree will begin with a welcome dinner on Thursday, May 4 that features Andrew Hiltz, the 2017 Saskatchewanderer as guest speaker. Hiltz will share his experiences that have helped hone his communications and leadership skills, while showcasing Saskatchewan as the best place to live, work and play.
This year鈥檚 patrollers attending the CAA School Safety Patrol Jamboree represent 24 schools from 13 communities in the province including Gravelbourg, Maple Creek, Melfort, Moose Jaw, North Battleford, Outlook, Prince Albert, Regina, Rosetown, Saskatoon, Spiritwood, Weyburn and Wynyard.
