The Estevan Art Gallery and Museum (EAGM) has started another year of its Summer Arts Camps.

The camp season started on Monday with their Art Scientists camp, which ran until Thursday.

鈥淜ids are experimenting with different art materials, and learning about mixing colours,鈥 said EAGM educator Karly Garnier.

The next camp will be the annual Art in Advertising session, which runs from July 17 to 20, and is held in partnership with the Estevan Mercury. The young people will learn about the newspaper industry, and they will create ads sponsored by local businesses to appear in the Mercury.

The Summer Arts Camps will wrap up with a mixed media camp from July 24 to 27. Garnier said it offers a little bit of everything.

鈥淭he kids get to dabble in painting, drawing, sculpture, pastels and all the different kinds of art materials,鈥 said Garnier.

The EAGM wanted to have an art masters鈥 camp for the week of July 10 to 13, but Garnier said it had to be cancelled.

Garnier is pleased with the registration numbers they have for this year鈥檚 camps. Registrations are still being accepted for the final camp.

The Art Scientists and the mixed media camp have morning and afternoon sessions. Art in Advertising has just a morning class.

The camps are part of the EAGM鈥檚 mandate to provide affordable public arts programs for the community, she said. The organization wants to reach as many different demographics as possible with its programs.

鈥淲e like to offer something in the summer months, when kids can鈥檛 access it through the schools,鈥 said Garnier.

Children continue to enjoy the arts programs as well, she said. They鈥檙e not a big time commitment, since it鈥檚 just three hours a day over the span of four days.聽
