Over the week of Jan. 7-13, the Weyburn Police Service responded to 91 calls for service.

Police received a report of damage done to a building on Souris Valley grounds between Dec. 22 and Jan. 7. Windows were broken on a couple of different occasions over that time period. Police would ask that anyone with information regarding the person(s) responsible for this mischief to contact the Weyburn Police Service or Crime Stoppers anonymously.

On Jan. 7, police attended a motor vehicle accident on East Ave. There were no injuries and minor damage. One vehicle had backed out of a parked position and collided with a west-bound vehicle. Both owners were directed to report to SGI for insurance purposes.

On Jan. 8 police attended to an accident at a downtown business. One vehicle drove into the side of a second vehicle. The passenger of the second vehicle required medical attention for non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the first vehicle was charged for driving without due care and attention.

Police were kept busy with the stormy conditions on Friday. A number of vehicles were stranded temporarily on the north and east sides of town. Police attempted to direct people from certain areas to avoid traffic congestion as roads were impassible. Police worked with other city services to minimize the impact of the storm.

On Jan. 8, police responded to an accident at the intersection of Prairie Ave. and Fourth St. The damage was minor and no injuries resulted. Both parties advised to report the accident to SGI for insurance purposes.

Police attended to a residence for a violent young offender who had a knife around midnight on Jan. 13. The individual who had been threatening family members was taken into custody and remanded. The young offender will appear in court on Jan. 15 facing charges of assault with a weapon, uttering threats and breach of probation.

On Jan. 9 police attended a residence to assist EMS with a medical emergency. After gaining access to the residence the patient who was inebriated became aggressive towards the EMS workers. He was arrested by police for assault and resisting arrest and taken into custody. He was treated and had no apparent medical problems.

On Jan. 9 police attended to a domestic. Alcohol was an apparent contributor to the concern. The mother was provided a safe place to stay for the evening and Victim Services was offered to assist with the situation.

Police responded to a complaint of an aggressive semi-truck driver. The incident escalated to inappropriate behavior being displayed by both drivers. The matter was mediated by police, and both drivers warned about their behavior.

On Sunday afternoon, a lady was bitten on the hand by a small dog while walking to church. The small black and white dog was being walked by its owner on a leash when it jumped up and nipped the woman. The dog bite did break the skin of lady. Although the injury was minor in nature, it is unknown if the dog was properly vaccinated. It is important that the dog owner come forward to report the health of the dog so that extreme unnecessary medical treatment can be avoided.

Police founded an extremely intoxicated individual walking on the highway. He was lodged in cells for the night for being drunk in public.

Police attended an accident at First Street and Coteau Ave. on Saturday. One occupant was taken to hospital for treatment with minor injuries. The driver of the second vehicle was charged for proceeding when unsafe to do so.

At 2:30 am on Sunday, police attended to a drive-through restaurant and arrested an individual for impaired driving. The individual was lodged in cells for the night, and later released before a Justice for a future court date.

At 2:52 am police responded to a complaint of mischief to a vehicle outside a local bar. After a police investigation it was determined to be an ex-boyfriend responsible, who was subsequently charged for mischief under the Criminal Code.

A gasoline customer drove off without paying on Sunday. The owner of the vehicle has been identified and lives in another community. The matter is still under investigation and will likely result in charges of theft.

Police attended a reported hit and run accident on Sunday. An independent witness saw the accident and identified the offending vehicle. After investigation it was determined both vehicles belonged to the same household, and they were redirected to SGI for insurance purposes.

Police attended a minor accident involving two vehicles Sunday afternoon. One vehicle had slid through a yield sign colliding with the other. Nobody was injured in the collision.

At 4 p.m. police attended another motor vehicle accident with no injuries. Individuals were directed to report to SGI.

At 6 p.m. police dealt with a domestic situation where there was concern for the safety of a child. The matter was resolved when the mother took custody of the child.

At 10 p.m. police attended a residence where an individual had threatened to harm another individual. One female was taken into custody and kept in cells to ensure the safety of the residents.
