Young racers steal the show at Kinsmen Scouting Club’s Annual Rally

MOOSE JAW — The Town ‘N’ Country Mall hosted an exciting Saturday event as the Moose Jaw Kinsmen Scouting Club held its Annual Rally, celebrating the creativity and competitive spirit of young Beavers, Cubs, and Scouts on April 26.

The event marked the return of the club’s traditional rally after several years of dormancy. Families, friends, and curious shoppers gathered to cheer on participants as they raced handcrafted vehicles down the tracks, showcasing months of effort, creativity, and craftsmanship.

“This event wouldn’t be possible without our parents, our volunteers and, of course, our Scouters,” said Laura Alton, group commissioner and colony Scouter for the club, during a pre-race announcement. Alton emphasized the need for more volunteers, encouraging the community to get involved in shaping the next generation of young leaders.

Each member was recognized for their efforts, with Beavers receiving individual medals and a campfire blanket patch, while Cubs and Scouts competed for top honours in a series of challenges that included speed races, obstacle courses, and design contests.

The Annual Rally also featured public participation races, prize draws, and a raffle, with proceeds supporting the club’s upcoming summer camps and other activities.

Beyond the racing excitement, the rally served as a platform to raise awareness about the club’s ongoing search for more adult leaders to help grow its ranks. With the Beaver program currently at capacity due to volunteer shortages, organizers hope that events such as this will inspire more community members to join the team, with Alton noting, “It’s about giving kids opportunities they might not have had otherwise — and having a lot of fun doing it.”
