Ending Pre-K year in style with a trip to Huebert’s Homestead

Canora Pre-K students get to graduate and go on a train ride, all on the same day.

CANORA - What could be better than graduating and going on a train ride, all on the same day?

On Friday, June 6, the students and their families from the Canora Junior Elementary Prekindergarten gathered at Huebert's Homestead for their last family event of the school year.

“It started with a song and dance performance, which the students practiced for a couple of weeks,” said Heather Clemmensen, teacher.

After the performance, Mrs. Clemmensen handed out a certificate and grad gift to the 10 students who will be moving up to Kindergarten in the fall. The gifts included literacy-type activities that they can do over the course of the summer that will help them prepare for Kindergarten.

Once all the formalities were done, the students were invited to go for a train ride with their families.

“The group went around on the tracks twice where students and families were able to see all the animal statues, farm equipment and the dinosaurs,” said Mrs. Clemmensen. “The dinosaurs were the highlight for many of the students on the train.”

Once the train ride was over families were invited to enjoy freshly made hot dogs that one of the student's dad, Sheldon Danyluk, was kind enough to barbecue for this occasion. They were also served watermelon and cookies for dessert.

For the final highlight of the event, the students and parents spent some time admiring Jordan Huebert's eye-popping room of trains, tracks and little village scenes.
