INVERMAY - Eight athletes from Invermay School competed at the SHSAA provincial track-and-field meet in Moose Jaw on June 6-7
“We had a fantastic time in Moose Jaw, a great experiences for all athletes,” said Coach Kent Seerey. “The weather was not in our favour but our eight athletes battled through the 70 – 80km winds to perform. I’m very proud of all these athletes who are among the top athletes in the entire province. They earned their spot at the provincial level ahead of hundreds if not thousands that would have competed at their local district meets.”
Invermay results were as follows
Bailey Maier placed eighth in senior girls high jump by clearing 1.45m, a personal best for this year. She also finished 15th in senior girls javelin with a throw of 26.02m.
Michael Mesias finished tenth in intermediate boys long jump with his season best of 5.39m. He also placed 26th in javelin with a 26.23m throw.
“It was a surprise to us, but Michael had made the intermediate boys 4x100 relay team,” said Coach Seerey, “and his team of other ECDAA runners earned seventh place, finishing only a tenth of a second behind the last qualifying team to go to the finals.”
Cassidy Bosovich finished tenth in intermediate girls javelin with a 24m throw.
In senior girls javelin, April Grychowski threw a personal best of 24.53m to finish 19th.
Addison Enge placed 21st in intermediate girls triple jump on a distance of 8.94m, “not far off her personal best,” according to Coach Seerey.
Jasmin Kowalyshyn came in 25th in intermediate girls high jump by clearing 1.30m.
In junior boys hurdles, Angelo Ferenal finished 21st in a time of 18.61s.
In spite of throwing into a 70km wind, Taelynn Maier placed 26th in junior girls discus with a distance of 16.5m.
“To reach the provincial level is a success in itself, and for these athletes to perform the way they did in the challenging weather conditions says a lot about their character,” said Coach Seerey. “We had a great time bonding with each other off the track with lots of laughs, good meals, and we enjoyed touring the Tunnels of Moose Jaw. Congratulations Invermay Eagle Track Athletes, we are very proud of you!”
