A significant wind storm on October 17-18 created a variety of challenges for Canora residents and Town of Canora employees. According to Environment Canada, wind gusts in Canora reached as high as 85 km/h.

During Education Week from October 15 to 21 at CJES (Canora Junior Elementary School), students assembled on October 19 to read together while working to reduce student anxiety.

In less than two weeks a new bus service will have begun, transporting passengers from Kamsack and Canora to Yorkton and Regina.

The grand opening of the Canora Gateway Co-op C-store and liquor store was held on October 18. The celebration was the culmination of many hours of planning and hard work by Co-op staff, said Bryan Harder, store manager.

The Canora & District Fire Department put in a long day and night dealing with numerous fires during the strong winds that blew across the province on October 18.

Canora Composite School (CCS) athletes competed at the Cherrydale cross-country district meet near Yorkton on October 5. In the beginner boys two-kilometre race, involving 37 runners, Rhett Ludba finished second in a personal best time of 8:59.

In 1967, Dave Popowich started a new career as administrative assistant for the RM of Buchanan. Fifty years later, he is still going strong, but now as the reeve of the RM of Good Lake.

Gateway Co-op has a new general manager. Brad Chambers started his new position, based in Canora, on October 10. He succeeds Dana Antonovich, who has been the manager for 19-plus years and has retired effective July 30.
