The dry weather we have been enjoying has enabled farmers to make good progress with harvest operations. Quite a number have completed combining and others report having very little left to do. It is always a relief when the weather co-operates. It is also a bonus when fall field work is done as well.
Congratulations and best wishes to Florence Pike who celebrated her 90th birthday Oct. 11. She thoroughly enjoyed the day especially since all her family: six children, 17 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren all were present. Some had travelled quite a distance to attend: Rheanan (Pike) Beasley and her husband from Fort McMurray, Alta.; Dustin Pike and his wife, Ali, from Regina; Jared Pike and his wife, Jennifer from Saskatoon; Nicole and Lexi Pike from Edmonton, Alta.; Vanessa (Pike) Weber and four daughters from Lac des Isles; Wayne and Jane Pike from Lac des Isles; Dana and Laurie (Pike) Kobes from Calgary, Alta.; Tyrel Kobes from Lethbridge, Alta. and Dillon Kobes from Edmonton. The celebration began about 5 p.m. when Wayne Pike, as MC, introduced Florence's family members and grace was sung. Family members as well as cousins and their families enjoyed a Thanksgiving-style supper that had been prepared by family. Following the meal Happy Birthday was sung to Florence after which she cut the birthday cake that had been made and beautifully decorated by Eileen Evans. Florence, in a few well-chosen words thanked everyone for the wonderful day. A lot of visiting followed. It is not often that folks get to enjoy a visit on such a happy occasion.
