The Saturday events of the Radisson and District 93rd Agricultural Fair Aug. 9 and 10 started with the parade at 11 a.m., with over 25 entries.

Things have been a bit slow this summer. The annual indoor rodeo will be taking place Aug. 21-23 with the amateur bull riding taking place on the Thursday evening. Entries have been filled for this event.

Born in Outlook, I grew up on the prairies. After graduating from the University of Saskatchewan with an education degree, a teaching career ensued. In 1971 a move to the Battlefords was followed by teaching junior high until retirement.

Summer visits enjoyed

Tillie Linkert spent an enjoyable day with her daughter in Lloydminster. She was planning to spend the long weekend with her family in Loon Lake. Marilyn Stewart was to the Berry Farm at Marshall with the people from Pine Island Lodge.

We're always busy at the library, but summer is a particularly active time, especially for children's programs. The Summer Reading Club kicks off around the region this month with a variety of story times and craft programs.

A cooling-off period following some of the hottest weather we've seen for some time, was welcome. The recent wind and rainstorms have lodged quite a few fields as they are very heavy stands of crop.

Lil McMillan enjoyed the McMillan family reunion at Silver Lake this weekend. She enjoyed seeing the family members from all over. Tillie Linkert was to Loon Lake with her three girls for August long weekend, leaving Friday and getting home Monday.

More than 300 people will volunteer at the Battlefords Agricultural Society's 127th annual Northwest Territorial Days this week. Doug Dunlop, 67, has been one of those volunteers for about 45 years.
