The Battlefords North Stars (22-15-6-1) took to the road for a one-game trip against the Humboldt Broncos (17-21-5-0) yesterday hoping for a rebound performance from their last game against the Nipawin Hawks (27-12-2-3) Saturday.

Tucked away in the quiet snowy hills on the outskirts of Humboldt, the Carlton Trail Ski Club was bustling with activity on Jan. 26. Skiers from all across the province traveled there just so they could partake in the Saskatchewan Cup Race.

There were eight Saskatchewan Prairie Hockey League games over the weekend, including one that saw the Meota Combines (13-2-0-1) 12-game winning streak come to an end.

The Battlefords North Stars (22-14-6-1) played two home games in front of their parents and billets as part of parents and billets weekend, picking up a win and a loss.

The Battleford AAA Midget Sharks (7-16-1-1) dropped both games against the Regina Rebels (8-9-3-3) over the weekend, but came close in both.

The Battlefords AAA Stars (21-11-0-1) played three games last week, picking up a last second win at home, and back-to-back losses on the weekend.

After moving around early this season, Matthew Kenney has found a home and a comfort level with the Humboldt Broncos. Through eight games in January, the talented 18-year-old has recorded nine of his 22 points and five of his 10 goals this season.

Who can stop the Meota Combines? With an 8-1 win over the Maymont Settlers (5-6-0-1) Tuesday, the Combines (12-2-0-0) have now won 12 straight SPHL games.

Matthew Saharchuk is having a solid season for the Battlefords North Stars (21-13-6-1) with 31 points in 41 games. Despite the good stat line, he hadn't scored since Dec. 6. Until Wednesday.
