A birdie putt for the win, that is what it came down to for the Battlefords' Tim Acaster, as he drained his birdie putt on the 18th hole at the North Battleford Golf and Country Club on Sunday.

Brian Weisbrod of Lumsden is just days away from taking his place in the Saskatchewan Baseball Hall of Fame, as the class of 2012 will be inducted Saturday.

It was a beautiful day Thursday, especially for the team of Art Strueby, Ray Hoover and Fay MacKinnon, as they eagled number four and came in as the top team of the New Horizons golf at North Battleford Golf and Country Club.

The late Hank Dornstauder of Vibank will take his place in the Saskatchewan Baseball Hall of Fame in a week. Dornstauder was born in 1926, one of 13 children born to Christof and Caroline Dornstauder. His baseball career started on their farm.

Two local players have made it to the next step in their goal of representing Western Canada at the World Under 17 Hockey Challenge.

Alfred John (Jack) Ovens spent most of his life on a farm three miles from the village of Gallivan. The school he attended boasted in it's history of all kinds of sports including baseball.

Athletes who have dominated at the local Battle West Track and Field meet representing their schools had a strong showing in Meadow Lake last week representing the Rivers West District at the Saskatchewan Summer Games.

It was an experience they will never forget. Swimmers from Humboldt and area were part of the Team Prairie Central in the 2012 Saskatchewan Summer Games in Meadow Lake July 29 to August 4.

The Battle River Archers packed their bows, arrows and supplies, as many members of the local club participated near Vernon, B.C. in the 2012 Canadian 3D Archery Championship.

It wasn't the Olympics, but it was Saskatchewan's own version. The Saskatchewan Summer Games were held in Meadow Lake last week, and a large number of local athletes competed in events from athletics to swimming to soccer.
