In Meadow Lake this week, the first half of the Saskatchewan Summer Games came to an end, as the baseball, female soccer, basketball, canoeing, kayaking, swimming, tennis and golf athletes headed home.

After missing a month of training, Ryan Graf forged on to compete in the 2012 Canadian Junior Track and Field championships in Winnipeg, Manitoba, July 27-29. He placed fourth in the 100 metres with a time of 10.

The Humboldt Pee Wee Dodgers are the Provincial A Baseball champions. The Provincial A Pee Wee Baseball Championship was hosted by Yorkton on July 20-22. The championship was broken into two pools of three.

Richard [Dick] Doepker was born the youngest of 12 on a farm near Annaheim. He graduated from high school at St. Peters College in Muenster and went to Saskatoon to work and pitch for the Saskatoon Moores.

Michael Phelps has won eight medals during one Olympic swimming event, twice, but Alex Anderson Callbeck passed that mark while she competed in the Saskatchewan Summer Games.

It was a hard loss for the Muenster Red Sox.

They had a good crowd and a good result from their last home games of the season. The Marysburg Royals senior baseball team played their last doubleheader at home on July 29, and trounced the Saskatoon Diggers in both games.

Rivers West went into action on day three with seven medals in the standings, by 10 a.m. the team's total was upped to 14. Gold medals were won in the water, as Meagan Wenzel of Rosetown won the 50m backstroke in the 11 and 12 female division.

The continuous work of recruiting hockey players in the off-season has paid off for two with local ties.

It has been a long time since the Wilkie Brewers and Lloydminster Meridian Twins have not met in the North Saskatchewan River Baseball League championship.
